Eleni Zimi, Assistant Professor

Her background is in Classical Archaeology with DPhil (1993-1997) and MPhil (1991-1993) from the University of Oxford, UK, and BA from the University of Athens (1990).

Her research interests revolve around Hellenistic art and Archaeology, Classical and Hellenistic metalware, Greek fine pottery and trade in the Mediterranean through diverse scientific methodology. She has also published on the production of purple dye in Greece and is involved in the publication of bronze artefacts from Xombourgo in Tenos and Vryokastro in Kythnos.

She is an active field archaeologist with fieldwork experience since the ‘90s. She participated in the excavations at Euesperides (mod. Benghazi, Libya) between 1998 and 2007. Also, she has directed a fieldwork training programme for undergraduate students at ancient Messene (2011-2013).

She has received grants in support of her research from the Society for Libyan Studies (2013-2015), the British School at Athens (2009-2010), the I.F. Kostopoulos Foundation (2000-2001), the Greek State Foundation (1999-2000) and the Catherine & Leonard Woolley Fund (Somerville College Oxford, 1998).
